BP - Climate Change & Sustainability

As part of BP’s recent commitment to the transition to
low carbon energy a new team of experts called Climate Change & Sustainable Technology has been pulled together. Their work over the last decade has been truly pioneering.

Our task was to help bring together a number of experts working in the field of low carbon technology and help give them belief in what they could do to support BP in the move to low carbon energy. The newly formed team held enormous expertise, built up over the last few decades, and the challenge was to see how this team could support BP with a sense of urgency and importance.

Insight

BP is a pioneer in the field of climate change. The establishment of Alternative Energy over 10 years was a global landmark initiative.  However, over the last few years, much of the work undertaken by members of Climate Change & Sustainable Technology (CCST) in developing Carbon Capture Use & Storage (CCUS) and low carbon energy strategy had largely taken place under the radar. At the same time, major bodies like IPCC and IEA had recognised the critical importance of a technology like CCUS to ensure COP 21 commitments could be met.

Action

Challenge

Pulse has been providing guidance and practical support to CCST leadership to both galvanise the team behind BP’s
new commitment to the low carbon transformation and engage BP management across the world in how low carbon technologies and strategies could be deployed. A series of workshops in BP’s US and UK bases brought team members together, introduced CCST and helped each individual understand his/her crucial role going forward. We helped to craft a vision and set of principles to aid cohesion and long-term planning. We also helped develop engagement plans and tools for the team to undertake their
daily work.
